“Before you can care about others, you have to care about yourself,” Vermeil said. “Players don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
According to Vermeil, a positive work atmosphere is a key ingredient of success for any team. Vermeil, who is passionate about his own health, said that looking out one’s welfare is necessary to encourage others to do the same.
“If you’re in a leadership position, then make sure you’re a good example in every way, not only in your expertise but in how you take care of your health,” Vermeil said. “These kinds of things relate. I’ve talked about being responsible for creating a great atmosphere to work in, which is then conducive to better contributions by everybody. When people enjoy being in the atmosphere that they work in, everything goes better.”
Integrative health coaching is “an emerging expression of medical science and health care that acknowledges all the strengths of our western conventional medicine but also integrate s into it proven and clinically valuable initiatives, modalities and techniques that come from other health models,” according to Roger Mustalish, the chair of the university’s department of health.
