Adam Wainwright spent his entire 18-year Major League Baseball career from 2005 – 2023 pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals. A three-time All-Star (2010, 2013, 2014), Wainwright won a World Series with the Cardinals in 2006, going 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA as a reliever. After 2006, Wainwright was deployed as a starter by St. Louis. Among Cardinals pitchers all-time, Wainwright ranks third in wins (200) and games played (478), while trailing only Hall of Famer Bob Gibson in career strikeouts. Wainwright finished as the NL Cy Young Award runner-up twice (2010, 2013) and received top-10 votes three other seasons.

In 2009 and 2013, he led the NL in wins while also capturing Gold Gloves in those years for his solid defense. Wainwright in 2020 was named the Roberto Clemente Award winner in recognition of his sportsmanship, community involvement and impact on the baseball diamond. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2017 and internationally helped the United States to a silver medal at the 2023 World Baseball Classic. In 2023, Wainwright won his 200th MLB game, becoming just the third Cardinals pitcher to reach the milestone and just 122nd overall in MLB history. Wainwright was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the 1st round of the 2000 draft and was traded to the Cardinals in 2003. He made his MLB debut on September 11, 2005.
