Chris Fowler has enjoyed a long and successful career as a sportscaster since being hired by ESPN in 1986. The two-time Sports Emmy Award-winner was the longtime host of the network’s popular college football television show “College GameDay” from 1990-2014. Since 2014, Fowler has partnered with Kirk Herbstreit in calling ABC’s Saturday Night Football. He has also worked on ESPN’s Grand Slam tennis and Triple Crown horse racing coverage, the X Games and FIFA World Cup. Additionally, Fowler served as host of SportsCentury on ESPN Classic and hosted the network’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Final Four. Fowler, along with Herbstreit and Lee Corso, was named 2003’s “Most Powerful Media Personalities in Sports” by The Sporting News.
Fowler’s first assignment at ESPN was serving as reporter and host of Scholastic Sports America. In 1988, he began working college football games as a sideline reporter. Fowler went to college at the University of Colorado, during which time he produced and co-hosted a local weekly cable show, served as sports director at CU’s radio station and worked for the Rocky Mountain News covering high school sports. Fowler was honored by the Denver Press Club with its first Alan Berg Memorial Journalism Scholarship.
