Dave Stewart is a retired MLB pitcher whose playing career lasted 18 years from 1978-1995 with the L.A. Dodgers (1978, 1981-1983), Texas Rangers (1983-1985), Philadelphia Phillies (1985-1986), Oakland Athletics (1986-1992, 1995) and Toronto Blue Jays (1993-1994).
Stewart was a three-time World Series champion - 1981 with the Dodgers, 1989 with Oakland and 1993 as a Blue Jay. Known for his high performance during the playoffs, Stewart was named World Series MVP in 1989 after going 2-0 in the Fall Classic with a 1.69 ERA. The next season he was named ALCS MVP with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 1.13 as he helped Oakland to its third straight appearance in the World Series.
From 1987-1990, he won at least 20 games in four consecutive seasons. During those years, he placed within the top five of A.L. Cy Young voting. In June of 1990 he pitched a no-hitter for the Athletics and that same year he won the Roberto Clemente Award. Stewart’s first year in Toronto in 1993 saw him awarded with another ALCS MVP award as he went on to win his final World Series ring. After his playing days, Stewart worked as a coach, executive and baseball agent before being named the Arizona Diamondbacks GM in 2014.
