Duane Kuiper is a seven-time Emmy Award-winning MLB play-by-play broadcaster who calls San Francisco Giants games on NBC Sports Bay Area (tv) and KNBR (radio). While Kuiper most often works with longtime partner Mike Krukow, he also calls games with Jon Miller and Dave Flemming. Aside from one year spent calling games for the Colorado Rockies in 1993, Kuiper has been working Giants’ games since 1986.
Kuiper has called numerous historic games and plays during his broadcasting career. Notably, he was on the call when Barry Bonds notched his 715th career home run and, in doing so, passed Hall of Famer Babe Ruth on the all-time home runs list. Later, when Bonds hit home run No. 756 to pass Hank Aaron for the all-time MLB lead, Kuiper was on the call once again. He additionally handled TV broadcasting duties in 2010 when the Giants defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series to win the franchise’s first championship since 1954 when they were known as the New York Giants. Also, in 2012, he called Matt Cain’s perfect game, the 22nd in the history of MLB.
Prior to his broadcasting career, Kuiper enjoyed a 12-year career in the majors as a player with the Cleveland Indians (1974-1981) and Giants (1982-1985). Known for his defensive prowess, in 1976 and 1979 Kuiper led all American League second basemen in fielding percentage.
