Eric Hosmer has played first base in the majors since 2011. After being selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 1st round (3rd overall pick) of the 2008 MLB Draft, Hosmer made his debut in the majors on May 6, 2011 and played for the Royal through 2017. He has played for the San Diego Padres since 2018.

In 2011, Hosmer hit .293 with 19 homers and 78 RBI, placing third in that year’s A.L. Rookie of the Year voting. In 2013, he batted .302 and captured the first of three straight Gold Glove Awards. The 2015 season saw the Royals win their first World Series title since 1985 and Hosmer was a main component of the team’s success that season when he hit .297 with 18 home runs and 93 RBI. During the postseason, Hosmer set a franchise playoff record by recording 27 RBI.

In 2016 and 2017, Hosmer displayed power as he hit 25 home runs in both seasons. He was named an All-Star for the first time in 2016, batting .266 with a career-best 104 RBI. The 2017 season saw Hosmer post a career-high batting average of .318 while winning a Silver Slugger Award and Gold Glove Award. Internationally, he won a gold medal representing the United States at the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
