Ian Baker-Finch is a former professional golfer and current broadcaster whose crowning achievement on the golf course was winning the 1991 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, besting Mike Harwood by two shots. That year, he climbed into the top 10 in the world in the Official World Golf Ranking. Baker-Finch was born in Nambour, Queensland, Australia and turned pro in 1979. He played on the PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, capturing 17 tournaments. He won his first professional tournament in 1983 at the New Zealand Open and won his first tournament in the United States on the PGA Tour in 1989 at the Southwestern Bell Colonial.
In 1996, Baker-Finch held the role of Vice Captain for the international team at the Presidents Cup and, in 2003, 2005 and 2007, he was picked by golfing legend Gary Player to be an assistant captain. Baker-Finch also served as captain of the Australian Olympic golf team at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. He was the recipient of the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and was inducted into the Queensland Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. After his playing career ended, Baker-Finch launched a successful broadcast career. He worked as an analyst from 1998-2006 for ABC Sports and ESPN before being hired by CBS Sports in 2007. Baker-Finch and his wife Jennie have two daughters and live in Florida.
