Jonny Gomes spent 13 seasons in the majors from 2003-2015 playing outfield for the Tampa Bay Rays (2003-2008), Cincinnati Reds (2009-2011), Washington Nationals (2011), Oakland A’s (2012, 2014), Boston Red Sox (2013-2014), Atlanta Braves (2015) and Kansas City Royals (2015). He also played overseas in Japan in 2016 for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. Though Gomes only spent two seasons in Boston, he made an impact as he helped the Red Sox defeat the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 World Series, including a three-run homer in Game 4 that broke a 1-1 tie and gave Boston the lead for good.

Born on November 22, 1980 in Petaluma, California, Gomes played collegiately at Santa Rosa Junior College before being picked by Tampa Bay in the 2001 MLB Draft (18th round). He made his debut in the majors on September 12, 2003. Known for his philanthropic work, Gomes has been involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs and Camp for a Cure and has sponsored numerous Little League baseball teams. After retiring from playing, Gomes worked as a Red Sox analyst for NESN and was hired by the Arizona Diamondbacks, first as a hitting coach for its Rookie League team and later as its minor league baserunning and outfield coordinator.
