Keith Brooking is a former NFL linebacker who played from 1998-2011, mainly with the Atlanta Falcons (1998-2008) but also the Dallas Cowboys (2009-2011) and Denver Broncos (2012). Brooking was selected as the 12th overall pick in the 1st round of the 1998 NFL Draft by Atlanta out of Georgia Tech and he quickly became a key contributor to the Falcons’ defense. He started 15 games as a rookie at linebacker and also saw action in the nickel package, recording five pass breakups. The Falcons reached Super Bowl XXXIII that season and Brooking had eight tackles in the NFC Championship contest.
A two-time second-team All-Pro selection, Brooking was also named to five straight Pro Bowls and, from 2001-2008, he started every game for the Falcons, recording at least 100 tackles every year during that span. In 2003, he set a career-high in combined tackles with 144 while also recovering two fumbles. In 2005, Brooking had a career-best 3.5 sacks and also set a personal-best in interceptions with four while registering 115 tackles. After leaving the Falcons, he played three seasons with Dallas and one final year with the Broncos in 2012, starting all 16 regular season contests every year and giving him the distinction of never having missed a game since 2000.
Brooking has long supported charitable organizations that benefit foster home children and created the Keith Brooking Children’s Foundation in 2003. Brooking was born on October 30, 1975 in Sharpsburg, Georgia. In 2007, he was named a member of the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame and, in 2016, the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame.
