Mel Renfro is a Hall of Fame cornerback who played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1964-1977. He was a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, 7-time All-Pro and 2-time Super Bowl champion. In 14 seasons, Renfro recorded 52 interceptions and is the Cowboys’ all-time leader in that category. He led the NFL in interceptions in 1969 with 10. He also excelled as a return specialist and holds the Cowboys’ record for kickoff returns with an average 26.4 yards per return. Renfro is a member of the Cowboys Ring of Honor and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996.

Renfro was born in Houston, Texas before moving to Portland, Oregon, where he went to Jefferson High School and excelled in both football and track and field. In 1960, Renfro was named by Track and Field News as its High School Athlete of the Year. Renfro went on to play college football at the University of Oregon and was a two-time All-American. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1983, the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986 and the University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. Renfro was selected by the Cowboys in the 2nd round of the 1964 NFL Draft.
