Phil Dawson is a former NFL kicker who played from 1998-2018, primarily with the Cleveland Browns (1999-2012) but also the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals.
After going undrafted out of Texas in 1998, Dawson served as a practice squad member for the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots before landing with the Browns in 1999. Dawson would go on to spend 14 seasons in Cleveland, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in field goals made. He holds a career 84% success rate on all field goals attempted (526), having made 441 with a long of 57 yards.

In 2007, Dawson was named second-team All-Pro, having made 87% of his kicks (26-of-30). In 2012, he was again named second-team All-Pro and also made his first Pro Bowl appearance behind an NFL-best 94% make-rate on field goals. In 2013 with San Francisco and again in 2017 with Arizona, Dawson led the NFL in field goals made. He played in 305 career games, scoring a total of 1,841 points. Collegiately, Dawson earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 1997 and first-team All-Big 12 honors in 1996. After retiring, Dawson was named head football coach at Hyde Park High School in Austin, TX.
