Sonny Lubick served as the head football coach at Colorado State from 1993 – 2007. He was the most successful football coach in school history and compiled a 108-74 record. During his time in Ft. Collins, he shared or won six Western Athletic Conference (WAC) or Mountain West Conference (MWC) titles and led the Rams to nine bowl games. In 1994 he was named by Sports Illustrated as National Coach of the Year. Lubick recorded four 10-win or better seasons, including an 11-2 mark in 1997 that culminated with a Holiday Bowl victory over the Missouri Tigers. Lubick is so beloved in Ft. Collins that the Rams’ new football stadium that opened in 2017 is known as Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium.

Lubick’s collegiate coaching career began in 1970 at Montana State, first as an assistant and then as head coach, a job he held from 1977 – 1981. After leaving Bozeman, Lubick again served as an assistant at a number of schools, including Colorado State, Stanford and Miami (FL). Several high-profile coaches served as assistants under Lubick, including Lane Kiffin and Urban Meyer. Lubick was born in Butte, Montana and graduated in 1960 from Western Montana (now known as the University of Montana Western).
