Troy Smith played quarterback at Ohio State from 2003-2006 and was the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner. That season, Smith led the Buckeyes coached by Jim Tressel to a spot in the BCS National Championship Game by throwing for 2,507 yards and 30 touchdowns. His quarterback rating was 167.87, which ranked 4th among NCAA Division 1 players. He beat out Darren McFadden from Arkansas and Brady Quinn from Notre Dame with 91.6% first-place votes to claim the Heisman and became the sixth OSU player to win the award, joining a group that included Eddie George and Archie Griffin. Smith’s victory margin at the time was the second largest ever, trailing only O.J. Simpson.
Besides the Heisman, Smith won a host of other awards for his play that season, including the Walter Camp, Davey O’Brien, Chic Harley and Archie Griffin awards. He was also named the Sporting News Player of the year, AP Player of the Year and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. His jersey #10 was retired by the Buckeyes in 2014. After college, Smith was picked in the 5th round by the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens in the 2007 draft. He played for the Ravens from 2007-2009 before playing for the San Francisco 49ers, Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League and Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Smith was born on July 20, 1984 in Columbus, Ohio and went to Glenville High School in Cleveland.
