GREEN BAY, WI — It was a big pay day for Green Bay Packers’ quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, when the Green Bay Packers officially announced on Friday, April 26, that they had just signed Rodgers to a contract extension.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rodgers signed with the Green Bay Packers for five years and $110 million, which makes him the highest paid player in NFL history. Rodgers, who will receive $40 million in the first year, now surpasses Raven’s quarterback Joe Flacco’s $120.6 million salary over six years with Baltimore, a contract Flacco signed in March.
Rodgers, who led the Packers to a Super Bowl XLV victory in 2010, was also named Super Bowl MVP. Only Aaron Rodgers, Dan Marino and Bret Favre have thrown for over 30 touchdowns in more than one season before the age of 30.
The Packers quarterback takes this as a big honor as he addressed the media.
“I feel that I come from some humble roots and I’m very honored to have this opportunity to play a sport that I love. I’ve been dreaming about playing since I was a kid watching Joe Montana and Steve Young on T.V. and now being able to live out that dream and be paid very well. It’s an honor and also a responsibility that I take very seriously.”
“Aaron is a true professional and a special player,” general manger Ted Thompson said in a statement. “He works hard, is humble, and is focused on his actions, on and off the field. He is an excellent teammate and pushes himself and others to be the very best. We are happy to reach an agreement to extend his career with the Packers.”
