World Series MVP, David Ortiz, affectionately known as ‘Big Papi,’ visited the Late Show on Monday night, November 4, to talk with David Lettermen about the Boston Red Sox, the beard phenomenon, the first game after the Marathon bombings and the healing of the city.
Letterman congratulated Ortiz on the World Series win but jokingly said:
“It would be better for us if it were the Yankees.”
Letterman told Ortiz, “You have become sort of the standard bearer for by God this is our city.” Letterman laughed and asked “what exactly did you say?”
Ortiz told Letterman, “My first day at Fenway, I saw a lot of faces expecting something special to happen and me being one of those faces, I express myself the way I feel at the time.” Ortiz went on to repeat his now memorable Fenway quote. I said “this is our #@!&*ing city!”
