PALM DESERT, CA. — Dodgers legend, Steve Garvey, appeared at Dick’s Sporting Goods store in the Westfield shopping mall in Palm Desert, CA. on Sunday, November 10. Approximately 350 baseball fans showed up to meet one of the greatest Los Angeles Dodgers players, Steve Garvey, who devoted about two hours to signing autographs at the new Dick’s Sporting Goods store that opened that weekend at the Westfield shopping mall.

Garvey, nicknamed “Mr. Clean” because of the squeaky clean image he held throughout his career in baseball, is a former MLB first baseman and current Southern California businessman. During his career he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1969 to 1982 and the San Diego Padres from 1983 to 1987. He was the 1974 NL MVP, ten-time All-Star, and holds the National League record for consecutive games played (1,207). In the fall of 2012, Garvey underwent an operation to treat prostate cancer, and continues to raise awareness for diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Today Steve is a popular motivational speaker and a sought after cancer speaker.
