MIDLAND, TX. — Former Dallas Cowboys legend Ed “Too Tall” Jones has been named a guest speaker at the 2015 West Texas Sports Banquet and Memoribilia Auction. Former Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers pitcher Ferguson Jenkins “Fergie” will be the keynote speaker replacing Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez who was not able to attend for personal reasons. A silent auction will start at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Other guests who are expected to attend this year’s banquet are new RockHounds manager Ryan Christenson, former RockHounds manager Aaron Nieckula, Texas League President Tom Kayser and RockHounds co-owners Miles Prentice and Bob Richmond.
Past speakers include former MLB Commissioner Bowie Kuhn, Dallas Cowboys Bob Lilly, pitchers Nolan Ryan and Bert Blyleven. and former MLB manager Whitey Herzog.

Ed “Too Tall” Jones is a former NFL defensive end who played 15 years for the Dallas Cowboys. He played from 1974–1978 and 1980-1989. By the end of his 15 years with the Cowboys, he was officially credited with 57 quarterback sacks. Unofficially, his career sack total is 106 (sacks did not become an official NFL statistic until 1982). His highest single-season sack total was 13 (in 1985). He was a member of the famed “Doomsday Defense” squad of the 1970s. Jones was given the nickname “Too Tall” because of his height, 6’9″.
