EARTH CITY, MO — Legendary quarterback Kurt Warner is one of five NFL players representing the Rams organization to be part of the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction class. Along with Warner, four members of the Greatest Show on Turf include — wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt and offensive tackle Orlando Pace — as well as pass rusher Kevin Greene, who started his career with the Rams when they played in Los Angeles. Warner, Pace and Greene came up just short of enshrinement last year, making the cut to 15 finalists but not into the class of five modern-era inductees. For Bruce, Holt, Pace and Warner, this is their second year on the ballot. It’s Greene’s 10th time as a semifinalist. The chances for all five Rams vary by position but each figures to face a tough test from ballot newcomers. At receiver, Bruce and Holt are facing a logjam that includes former Colt Marvin Harrison and Terrell Owens.
The 15 finalists will be announced in January, with the 2016 class announced at the NFL Honors ceremony the night before the Super Bowl. The class of 2016 will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 6.
Kurt Warner first attained stardom while playing for the St. Louis Rams from 1998 to 2003, where he won two NFL MVP awards in 1999 and 2001 as well as the Super Bowl MVP award in Super Bowl XXXIV. He led the 2008 Arizona Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII (the franchise’s first Super Bowl berth), and owns the three highest single-game passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history. He ended his football career as quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals on January 29, 2010 when he officially announced his retirement from the National Football League. He said he was looking forward to finally being a true father to his seven kids, and that he wanted to spend time with his wife. He spoke on the impact and influence of his family, former teammates, and God. These qualities have contributed to Kurt’s popularity as a motivational speaker.
