The York County Youth Development Center has organized a fundraising dinner and has named former Philadelphia Eagles, Vince Papale, as their keynote speaker. The 300-seat dinner will be held Sept. 26 at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., York. The host and emcee for the night will be state Rep. Kevin Schreiber.
Along with Papale, Robert Shank, a former resident of the YDC will also be speaking. Entertainment will include music from the local band Sound Reinforcement, and Street Beats, a drumming team from YDC that uses recycled materials and buckets to create rhythms and music.
The event is geared for adults and is supported entirely by sponsorships and through ticket sales. A limited number of corporate sponsorships are still available. Tickets are available for $50 per person by calling 717-840-7570 or visiting http://yorkcountychildrenbenefit.weebly.com.
Papale was the inspiration for the 2006 movie “Invincible”, starring Mark Wahlberg. He played three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles following two seasons with the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League. He was given the nickname “Rocky” (named after the 1976 Sylvester Stallone movie and character) while playing with the Eagles. He holds the record as the oldest rookie in the National Football League (excluding kickers).
