Bill Elliott is a retired NASCAR driver who won the Winston Cup title in 1988. In total, he won 44 races with 55 pole positions and 320 top tens. Among his top wins included two Daytona 500’s (1985, 1987), three Southern 500’s (1985, 1988, 1994) and the Brickyard 400 (2002). He also had a record four straight wins at Michigan International Speedway and holds the track speed records at Daytona international Speedway and Talladega. Elliott won the “Winston Million” in 1985, which was a bonus offered to any driver who won three of the four major NASCAR races - the Daytona 500, Winston 500, World 600 and Southern 500. Elliott won all but the World 600. That year, he won 11 races with 11 pole positions.

Elliott was the recipient of NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver Award a record 16 times and was named one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2007 and NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2015, then-Georgia governor Sunny Perdue declared Bill Elliott Day in his home state of Georgia on October 8. Elliott has also been honored with a stretch of road in Dawson County, Georgia named Elliott Family Parkway. Elliott was born on October 8, 1955 in Dawsonville, Georgia.
