David Freese is a retired infielder who played in the majors from 2009 – 2019 for the St. Louis Cardinals (2009-2013), Los Angeles Angels (2014-2015), Pittsburgh Pirates (2016-2018) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-2019). While playing for St. Louis in 2011, Freese played a crucial role in the Cardinals’ success during the postseason.
In the NLCS, he was named MVP after hitting .545 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Freese continued his success in the World Series against the Texas Rangers when he was named MVP after going 8-23, including a dramatic Game 6 walk-off home run in the 11th inning, joining Carlton Fisk, Kirby Puckett, Aaron Boone and David Ortiz as the only players in MLB history to hit a walk-off home run in extra innings while facing elimination. For the postseason, Freese set an all-time record for RBI with 21 in route to winning the Babe Ruth Award for his overall postseason performance. The following season in 2012 saw Freese hit .293 with 20 homers and named an All-Star.
Freese was born on April 28, 1983 in Corpus Christi, Texas and grew up in Wildwood, Missouri. He attended college at St. Louis Community College-Meramec and the University of South Alabama, where he was named an All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2006 in the 9th round of the MLB Draft. St. Louis acquired Freese in 2008 and he made his debut in the majors on April 6, 2009.
