Jared Allen is a retired defensive end who played in the NFL for 12 years for the Kansas City Chiefs (2004-2007), Minnesota Vikings (2008-2013), Chicago Bears (2014-2015) and Carolina Panthers (2015). One of the most dominating defensive players during his time in the league, Allen was named to the Pro Bowl five times and was a first-team All-Pro four times. He twice led the NFL in quarterback sacks in 2007 and 2011. Over the course of his career, Allen recorded a total of 136 sacks. In 2010, he was named to the list of the 50 Greatest Vikings players of all-time.
Allen was picked by the Chiefs in 2004 in the 4th round of the NFL Draft out of Idaho State, where he started 33 out of a total of 41 games during his undergraduate career and was named All-Big Sky three times. He was named winner of the Buck Buchanan Award in 2003, which is given each year to the best defensive player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. He also had his #41 jersey retired by Idaho State. Allen grew up in Morgan Hill, California and was named Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-League during his senior year at Los Gatos High School.
After retiring from football, Allen took up an interest in curling and started a team with former NFL players Michael Roos, Keith Bulluck and Marc Bulger. Allen has also been involved with various charitable causes and founded Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, which assists wounded military veterans that were injured in Afghanistan and Iraq.
