John Sterling Booking Agent Details
John Sterling has served as the radio play-by-play voice of the New York Yankees since 1989, teaming with Suzyn Waldman since 2005. He previously worked with Jay Johnstone, Michael Kay, Joe Angel and Charley Steiner. Before missing four games in 2019, Sterling had called 5,060 straight games. In addition to calling Yankees games, Sterling has hosted Yankeeography on YES Network for which he has won two Emmy Awards. He’s also provided “Sterling on Sports” commentary on WCBS-TV and is often involved in Yankees special ceremonies such as Old Timers Day, ticker-tape parades and retired number ceremonies for such Yankees greats as Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Joe Torre, Bernie Williams and others.
Sterling started his broadcast career in the early 1970’s in Baltimore when he did play-by-play work for the NBA’s Washington Bullets and Morgan State football. He first did work in the Big Apple in 1971 when he hosted a YMCA talk show and later worked in radio for the New York Raiders (World Hockey Association), New York Stars (World Football League), New York Islanders (National Hockey League) and New York/New Jersey Nets (National Basketball Association/American Basketball Association). During the 1980’s, Sterling worked in Atlanta, hosting a sports talk show and working for Turner Sports on its Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Haws broadcasts.
