Peyton Manning is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. He spent a total of 18 years total playing for the Indianapolis Colts (1998-2011) and Denver Broncos (2012-2015). He was a 14-time Pro Bowl selection, 7-time first-team All-Pro and 5-time NFL MVP.He led the Broncos to a win in Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers, 24-10, and the Colts to a win in Super Bowl XLI over the Chicago Bears, 29-17. In so doing, Manning became the first starting quarterback in league history to win Super Bowls with two different teams (he was also named MVP of Super Bowl XLI.
At the time of his retirement, Manning held numerous NFL records, including, 4,000 yard passing seasons (14), single season passing yards and touchdowns (5,477 and 55, respectively) and touchdown passes (539). His 14 Pro Bowls and 5 MVP awards are also records. Manning was picked by the Colts with the 1st overall pick of the 1998 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee. During his time in Knoxville, Manning set 43 school, SEC and national records and, in 1997, was named recipient of the Sullivan Award as the nation’s top amateur athlete.
Off the field, Manning’s contributions have been as impressive as his contributions on the field. In 1999, Manning and his wife Ashley established the PeyBack Foundation to provide leadership and growth opportunities for disadvantaged youth. To date, the Foundation has provided more than $13 million in programs and grants. In 2007, St. Vincent’’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis was renamed the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent. He also serves on the Pat Summit Foundation Advisory Board and the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet. Manning was recognized for his efforts by being named the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of Year (2005) and the recipient of the Byron “Whizzer White” Humanitarian Award (2005) and Bart Starr Award (2015).
Manning was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Isidore Newman High School. As a senior, he was named National Offensive Player of the Year by the Columbus (OH) Touchdown Club and the Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. He is the son of former New Orleans Saints and Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning and brother of New York Giants quarterback and two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.
