Rowdy Gaines is known as “Swimming’s Greatest Ambassador”. He won three gold medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in the 100 meter freestyle, 4x100 meter medley relay and 4x100 meter freestyle relay. He was also a member of the 1980 U.S Olympic Team and was favored to win several medals in Russia but didn’t compete due to the U.S boycott. Gaines won 17 U.S National titles and set 10 world records between 1978-1984. He competed collegiately at Auburn, where he was an eight-time NCAA champion, 12-time SEC Champion and 22-time All-American. He was the 1981 SEC Athlete of the Year and received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award in 2007.

Gaines is a member of the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, International Swimming Hall of Fame, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and Florida Sports Hall of Fame. Gaines has enjoyed a successful broadcasting career as a swimming analyst for NBC and ESPN and has worked as an analyst for each Summer Olympics since 1992. He has also served as the Executive Director of the Alabama Hall of Fame and the Chief Fundraising and Alumni Officer for USA Swimming. Gaines is the Executive Director of Rowdy’s Kidz, which organizes free swim clinics across the country and encourages kids to live an active and healthy lifestyle.
