Shawn Johnson is a retired Olympic gymnast who won a gold medal in the balance beam at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Before the games had ended, Johnson brought home an additional three silver medals for the United States in the team, floor exercise and all-around competitions. Even before the Olympics, Johnson had already earned quite a few accolades. At the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, she won three gold medals in the all-around, team and floor events and that same year also claimed four gold medals at the Pan American Games, three at the U.S. National Championships, including the all-around, and one at the American Cup. She again won the all-around completion at the 2008 U.S. National Championships. In 2013, she was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Originally from West Des Moines, Iowa, Johnson competed with the U.S. National Team from 2004-08 and again in 2011-2012. Johnson announced her retirement from the sport in June of 2012. In 2008, she placed fifth in the AP’s Female Athlete of the Year voting and also won a Teen Choice Award that year for Best Female Athlete. In 2009, she won an ESPY as the Best Female U.S. Olympian for her performance in Beijing. Johnson has published three books and appeared on countless TV shows, including Whose Line Is It Anyway, Celebrity Apprentice, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman and Family Feud. She also won season eight of Dancing with the Stars in 2009.
