Randy Gradishar played linebacker for the Denver Broncos for 10 seasons from 1974-1983 and was the leader of the legendary “Orange Crush Defense”. One of his era’s most dominating defensive players, Gradishar was a seven-time Pro Bowler, six-time All-Pro and the 1978 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Gradishar retired with a Broncos franchise record 2,049 tackles. In 2008, Pro Football Weekly published its All-Time 3-4 Defensive Team as voted on by a panel of coaches and former players and included Gradishar alonside such Hall of Famers as Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, Howie Long and Andre Tippett. He’s a member of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and Broncos Ring of Fame.
Born on March 3, 1952 in Champion, Ohio, Gradishar played college football at Ohio State under legendary coach Woody Hayes. During his time in Columbus where he started three years and was a two-time All-American, the Buckeyes complied a 25-6-1 mark with two Big 10 titles and No. 2 national ranking in 1973. That season, Gradishar finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting. He’s a member of the Ohio State Varsity “O” Hall of Fame and was named to the school’s All-Century Team. In 1998, Gradishar was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
