Trent Green is a former NFL quarterback who played from 1993-2008 with the San Diego Chargers (1993-1994), Washington Redskins (1995-1998), St. Louis Rams (1999-2000, 2008), Kansas City Chiefs (2001-2006) and Miami Dolphins (2007). Green saw his playing time limited for his first few years in the league but had a promising breakout season with the Redskins in 1998, throwing for 3,441 yards and 23 touchdowns. He joined the Rams in 1999 and won a Super Bowl XXXIV ring with the team. The next season in 2000, Green played in eight games for St. Louis and threw 16 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions.
Green’s career took off after joining the Chiefs. In 2002, he threw for 3,690 yards and a career-high 26 touchdowns. The next season, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection behind a 4,039-yard, 24-touchdown performance. For the bulk of his time in Kansas City from 2002-2006, Green posted a completion rate of at least 61.1%. He posted three straight seasons of at least 4,000 passing yards between 2003 and 2005 while earning another Pro Bowl selection at the age of 35 in 2005. In so doing, at the time he became just the fourth quarterback in league history to achieve the feat, joining Dan Marino, Dan Fouts and Peyton Manning. In total for his career, Green threw for 28,475 yards along with 162 touchdowns for an 86.0 quarterback rating.
Green played college football at Indiana and was an 8th round selection in the 1993 NFL Draft by San Diego. Since his playing days ended, he has worked as an NFL radio analyst for Westwood One and as a television analyst for Fox, NFL Network and CBS. In 2016, the Big Ten Conference, for whom his alma mater is a member, named him the recipient of that year’s Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award.
