Frank Martin is the current head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks men’s basketball team, a post he has held since 2012. His coaching career began in 1985, when he was an assistant coach at Miami High School. Martin coached in high school until 2000 before becoming an assistant at Northeastern that same year. He served in that role through 2004 before being named as an assistant coach at Cincinnati, where he stayed until 2006. In 2006, Martin was made an assistant at Kansas State University before becoming head coach from 2007-12. Under his leadership, the Wildcats went 117-54 in his five seasons as head coach while making the postseason every year. He was named the Big 12 Conference Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year in 2010.

After taking over the head coaching gig at South Carolina, Martin steadily improved the Gamecocks’ performances before leading them to a 26-11 record in 2016-17. South Carolina made the Final Four that year where they fell to Gonzaga, 77-73. That year, he was honored with the Jim Phelan Award, given to the most outstanding head basketball coach in NCAA Division I. Martin grew up in Miami, Florida, and graduated from Florida International University.
