LeRoy Butler spent his entire 12-year career from 1990-2001 playing safety for the Green Bay Packers. Butler was a member of the Packers’ team that won Super Bowl XXXI over the New England Patriots. During his time with Green Bay, Butler amassed 953 tackles with 38 interceptions, 20.5 sacks, 12 recovered fumbles and 3 defensive scores. He tied or led the Packers in interceptions over five different seasons and was the first defensive back in the history of the NFL to join the 20 Sack/20 Interception Club. The four-time Pro Bowler and four time All-Pro was named a member of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2007.
?Born on July 19, 1968 in Jacksonville, Florida, Butler suffered from pigeon-toe, which resulted in doctors having to break bones in his feet when he was less than a year old. Butler spent much of his early years in a wheelchair due to his difficulty walking and wore leg braces between six and eight years old. Doctors said that Butler would be fortunate to ever walk normally. Butler defied the odds and by the age of 10 was starring in football. He attended Robert E. Lee High School, where he was a multi-sport letterman and football All-American his senior season. Butler was named by the Florida High School Association in 2007 to its All-Century Team, which recognized the best 33 football players in the 100-year history of high school football in the state. He went on to play collegiately at Florida State (he spent two seasons in the defensive backfield with Deion Sanders) before being picked by the Packers in the 1990 NFL Draft (2nd round).
