Nikki Stone became the first American skier to win an Olympic gold medal in freestyle aerial skiing when she did so at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. Stone began competing as a member of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team in 1994 and enjoyed great success. She was the first freestyle competitor of any nationality to win every major freestyle aerials title. Her wins included 11 U.S. Championships, 11 World Cup events, 2 Grand Prix World Cup titles, 1 World Championship, 1 overall World Cup Grand Prix title and the aforementioned Olympic gold medal.

Stone retired from competition in 1999 and in 2002 was inducted into the U.S National Ski Hall of Fame. In 2010, Stone released the book “When Turtles Fly: Secrets of Successful People Who Know How to Stick Their Necks Out”. She has also written articles for Yahoo! Sports, the United States Olympic Committee, skiing magazines and newspapers. Additionally, Stone has taught at the University of Utah as a visiting professor and was hired by the United States Olympic Committee before the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada to help the athletes deal with the distractions, pressure and adversity. Stone is also a successful motivational speaker.
