John Starks is a retired guard who played in the National Basketball Association from 1988 – 2002. He’s best remembered for his time spent with the New York Knicks from 1990-1998 but also played for the Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz. While in New York City, Starks was named an All-Star in 1997, NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1993 and the league’s Sixth Man of the Year in 1997. He finished his career with a per game average of 12.5 points, 3.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds. He became the first player in the history of the league to record 200 three point shots in one season and is New York’s all-time three point scorer with 982.

Starks was born on August 10, 1965 in Tulsa Oklahoma and finished his college career at Oklahoma State after attending several other schools. He signed with the Warriors as a free agent in 1988 after going undrafted. After short stints in the CBA and WBL, Starks was given a try-out with the Knicks in 1990, where he subsequently spent 8 seasons. Off the court, Starks founded the John Starks Foundation in 1994 to provide high school students with college scholarships in the Tulsa, Oklahoma and New York tri-state area who need financial assistance and demonstrate community service and excellence in academics.
