The Atlanta Falcons play in the National Football League’s NFC South division along with the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They joined the league in 1965 as an expansion franchise and were the NFL’s 15th team. The first owner was Rankin Smith Sr. and the current owner is Arthur Blank. The Falcons have played their home games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium since 2017. Prior to that, they played at the Georgia Dome from 1992-2016 and Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium from 1966-1991.
