Tampa Bay Rays Booking Details

The Tampa Bay Rays compete in Major League Baseball’s American League East division along with the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays. Their chief rivals in the American League are considered to be the Red Sox and Yankees. They also have an intra-state rival with the Miami Marlins. They were originally called the “Devil Rays” but were changed to the “Rays” after the 2007 season. They have played in Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg since the team’s inception. The team was founded as an expansion franchise and began play in 1998. The team is currently owned by Stuart Sternberg, who purchased the team from the original owner, Vince Naimoli, in 2005. In 2008, the Rays enjoyed their first winning season, their first American League pennant (they defeated the Boston Red Sox) and first berth in the World Series, where they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-1.

Among the Rays greatest players include Wade Boggs, Fred McGriff, Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford. Several notable managers have led the franchise, including Lou Piniella (2003-05) and Joe Maddon (2006-14).
