The Houston Astros compete in Major League Baseball’s American League West division along with the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers and Oakland A’s. The Astros began play as the Houston Colt .45s as an expansion franchise along with the New York Mets in 1962. They changed their name to the Astros three years later.
The Astros have played their home games at Minute Maid Park since 2000. Prior to that, they played in the Astrodome from 1965-99. It was the first domed stadium as was often referred to as the “eighth wonder of the world”. The Astros won their first World Series in franchise history in 2017 by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-3. A.J. Hinch was the manager and George Springer was named MVP after he hit a record-tying five home runs.
