Pitcher Juan Marichal played in the majors from 1960-1975, mainly with the San Francisco Giants (1960-1973) and later the Boston Red Sox (1974) and L.A. Dodgers (1975). A 1983 inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame and 10-time All-Star, Marichal recorded more wins during the 1960s than any other MLB pitcher (191). He went 243-142 during his career, posting an ERA of 2.89 along with 2,303 strikeouts. He is a member of the Giants Wall of Fame while his jersey #27 has been retired by the Giants as well.
Marichal made his debut in the majors on July 19, 1960 and made his first appearance in the All-Star Game in 1962. The next season in 1963, Marchal led baseball in wins with 25 while posting a 2.41 ERA in route to leading the league in innings pitched (321.1). In 1964, he tossed a league-leading 22 complete games. Marichal continued to post MLB-best numbers in 1965 as his 10 shutouts led the majors while he also won 22 games. The 1968 season saw Marichal post a career-best 26 wins, which for the second time in his career led the majors, as did his career-high 30 complete games. He would go on to finish fifth in that year’s N.L. MVP voting.

The Sporting News in 1999 listed him as one of the 100 Greatest MLB Players of all-time. Born on October 20, 1937 in Laguna Verde, Dominican Republic, Marichal was inducted into the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame. After his playing days, he worked as a radio broadcaster.
