Matt Williams is a retired third baseman who played in the major leagues for the San Francisco Giants (1987-1996), Cleveland Indians (1997) and Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2003). He was a five-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He participated in the World Series for each of the three teams he played for – Giants (1989), Indians (1997) and Diamondbacks (2001) and won the Series with the Diamondbacks when they defeated the New York Yankees in seven games. Williams led the NL in RBI in 1990 and home runs in 1994. That year, he finished 2nd in National League MVP voting behind Jeff Bagwell of the Houston Astros. For his career, Williams batted .268 with 378 homers and 1,218 RBI. He’s a member of the Giants Wall of Fame.

Williams was born in Bishop, California and played collegiately at UNLV. He was drafted by the Giants in the 1st round of the 1986 draft. He made his Major League debut on April 11, 1987. After retirement, he went into coaching and served as a coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland A’s and as manager for the Washington Nationals in 2014-2015. He was named NL Manager of the Year in 2014.
