Steve Sax is a former Major League Baseball second baseman who played professionally from 1981-94. Sax spent the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1981-88. He broke out in 1982, hitting .282 with 47 RBI and 49 steals, a performance that earned him NL Rookie of the Year honors. Sax was a prolific base-stealer - he amassed 444 in his 14-year career with a high of 56 in 1983 while stealing 40-plus in six seasons. Sax won the World Series with the Dodgers in 1981 and 1988 and was a five-time All-Star in his career, in 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989 and 1990. In 1986, he came in 13th for MVP voting while earning a Silver Slugger award.

Joining the New York Yankees in 1989, Sax posted the second-highest batting average of his career. He played for the Yankees through 1991 before playing for the Chicago White Sox from 1992-93. Sax rounded out his MLB career in 1994 with the Oakland Athletics. After retiring, he worked briefly in television before running for political office in California. Sax was the Arizona Diamondbacks’ hitting coach in 2013. He has also worked as a host on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio.
