Bill Mazeroski is a Hall of Fame second baseman who spent his entire career from 1956-1972 playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mazeroski notably won the 1960 World Series for the Pirates via one of the most famous plays in MLB history, a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning of the decisive Game 7 against the New York Yankees. Mazeroski’s home run remains the only Game 7 walk-off home run in World Series history and was ranked by Sports Illustrated #8 on its list of the 100 Greatest Moments in Sports History. He won another World Series with the Pirates in 1971.

During his 17-year career, Mazeroski was a 10-time All-Star and won eight Gold Gloves for his superb defense. In total, Mazeroski batted .260 and recorded 2,016 hits with 138 home runs and 853 RBI. One of Mazeroski’s finer offensive campaigns came in 1958 when he set career-highs in home runs (19) and slugging percentage (.439). He also hit .275 with 68 RBI and placed eighth in that year’s N.L. MVP voting. Mazeroski would again receive N.L. MVP votes for the 1966 season. Pittsburgh retired Mazeroski’s jersey #9 in 1987 while in 2010, the Pirates unveiled a statue of his likeness in front of PNC Park to honor his historic home run that ended the 1960 World Series. After retiring, Mazeroski served as an instructor for the Pirates during Spring Training.
