Bob Boone is a retired catcher who played in the majors for the Philadelphia Phillies (1972-1981), California Angels (1982-1988) and Kansas City Royals (1989-1990). He also served as manager for the Royals (1995-1997) and Cincinnati Reds (2001-2003). More recently, Boone has worked in the front office of the Washington Nationals as VP of Player Development and Assistant General Manager.

Boone, known for his strong defensive play, was a four-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove Award winner. He won a World Series with the Phillies in 1980 and is a member of the Phillies Hall of Fame. Over the course of his 19 years in the majors, Boone set the record for number of games caught at 2,225. The mark was later broken by Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk.

Boone was selected by the Phillies in the 6th round of the 1969 draft out of Stanford University. He made his Major League Baseball debut on September 10, 1972. Boone is the son of the late Ray Boone, a former MLB third baseman, and the father of former players Bret and Aaron, the manager of the New York Yankees. Each of the four was named to the All-Star team during their careers.
