Scott Rolen played third base in the majors from 1996-2012 with the Philadelphia Phillies (1996-2002), St. Louis Cardinals (2002-2007), Toronto Blue Jays (2007-2008) and Cincinnati Reds (2009-2012). Rolen was a seven-time All-Star and earned eight Gold Gloves for his defensive prowess during his career, trailing only Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Brooks Robinson in the number of Gold Gloves won by a third baseman.
In 1997, his first full year in the big leagues with the Phillies, Rolen hit 21 home runs with 92 RBI and a batting average of .283, winning N.L. Rookie of the Year honors. He was traded to St. Louis in 2002 and won a Silver Slugger Award that season. In 2004, Rolen established career-highs in home runs (34), batting average (.314) and RBI (134). That season, he placed fourth in N.L. MVP voting. Rolen in 2006 had another solid campaign, hitting 22 home runs with 95 RBI and helping the Tony LaRussa-managed Cardinals to a win over the Detroit Tigers in the World Series. In his career, Rolen maintained a batting average of .281 and amassed 2,077 hits with 316 home runs. He became a member of the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2019.
Away from the baseball diamond, Rolen established the Enis Furley Foundation, which provides aid to families and children with hardship and illness. In 2018, Rolen was hired by the University of Indiana as the baseball team’s Director of Player Development. He was born on April 4, 1975 in Evansville, Indiana.
