Ceal Barry served as the University Colorado women’s head basketball coach for 22 seasons from 1983-2005. During her time in Boulder, Barry tallied a 427-242 record in route to leading the Buffs to four Big 8 regular season and tournament titles, 12 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, six appearances in the Sweet 16 and three appearances in the Elite Eight.

She was named four times the Big Eight Coach the Year (1989, 1993-1995) and, in 1994, was named by the Basketball Times and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) as National Coach of the Year. In 1995, she was the recipient of the prestigious Carol Eckman Award. In 1997, Barry was inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame and, in 2018, she became a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Prior to coaching at CU, Barry served as head coach at the University of Cincinnati from 1979-1983. She also coached the U.S. team at the 2011 Pan Am Games.

Barry grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and played collegiately at the University of Kentucky. After retiring from her coaching job at Colorado, Barry moved to the administration side and has served as the Deputy Athletic Director and the Senior Woman’s Administrator.
