Dwight Evans played right field in the majors from 1972-1991, mainly with the Boston Red Sox (1972-1990) before joining the Baltimore Orioles for his final season in 1991. A member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, Evans was a three-time All-Star (1978, 1981, 1987) and won eight Gold Gloves for his defense, including five straight from 1981-1985.

Evans enjoyed perhaps his finest season in 1981, as in addition to being named an All-Star and winning a Gold Glove, he also won a Silver Slugger Award behind his .296 batting average while leading the league in numerous offensive categories and tying for the MLB season home run mark with 22. He came in third for A.L. MVP voting that year as well. In 1987, at 35 years old, he won a second Silver Slugger Award and finished fourth in MVP voting thanks to career bests in batting, RBIs and home runs. Evans retired after the 1991 season with 2,446 career hits, 385 homers and a lifetime .272 batting average.

Evans ranks second all-time in total games played for the Red Sox, trailing only Hall of Fame Carl Yastrzemski. After retiring, he spent two seasons in the majors as a hitting coach, first with the Colorado Rockies in 1994 and then with the Red Sox in 2002. Off the field, Evans has been active with the charitable organization Neurofibromatosis Northeast.
