Eric Heiden Booking Agent Details
Eric Heiden is a retired speed skater who won five Olympic gold medals and set one world record and four Olympic records at the 1980 Winter Games. Heiden won more medals by himself than every country other than the Soviet Union (10) and East Germany (9) and accounted for 83% of the United States’ gold medals (the only other one being the “Miracle On Ice” hockey team). To this day he is still the only Olympian to win all five individual speed skating races and to claim five gold medals at a single Winter Olympics. From 1977 – 1980, Heiden won the Oscar Mathisen Award four consecutive times and, in 1980, was named recipient of the Sullivan Award. He is a member of the United States Olympic and Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fames. ESPN’s SportsCentury released its list of the 50th Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century and Heiden ranked #46
After retiring from speed skating, Heiden started cycling professionally and won the U.S. Professional Cycling Championship in 1985. The next year, he competed in the Tour de France. He was inducted into the United State Bicycling Hall of Fame in 1999. Heiden was born in Madison, Wisconsin. He started college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison but transferred to Stanford where he earned both a bachelor’s degree and medical degree. He would later serve as the team physician for the U.S Olympic speed skating team and started a sports medicine practice in Utah.
