George Springer has played outfield for the Houston Astros since 2014 and was an integral part of the Astros team that captured a World Series title - the first in franchise history - in 2017. That season, he hit .283 with 34 home runs and 85 RBI, winning a Silver Slugger Award and earning All-Star honors in the process. During the Fall Classic itself, he had an electric performance, tying a World Series record with five home runs during the Astros’ seven-game series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was named World Series MVP for his efforts.
Springer made his MLB debut on April 19, 2014 after being picked by Houston in the 1st round (11th pick overall) in the 2011 MLB draft. Springer played just 78 games his rookie year for the Astros but hit 20 home runs to go along with 51 RBI and finished eighth in A.L. Rookie of the Year voting. In 2018, he earned his second All-Star selection behind a 22-home run, 78-RBI campaign in which he batted .265. The 2019 season saw Springer put-up similar offensive numbers to 2017 as he hit 39 home runs along with 96 RBI and a batting average of .292. In so doing, Springer was named an All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award.
Off the baseball field, Springer has been active in the community, including serving as a spokesperson for the Stuttering Association for the Young. In 2020, he donated $100,000 to Astros ballpark employees to help during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was born on September 19, 1989 in New Britain, Connecticut.
