Jay Buhner is a retired MLB right fielder who enjoyed a 15-year professional career playing for the New York Yankees (1987-1988) and Seattle Mariners (1988-2001). Buhner spent the vast majority of his career in Seattle and is a member of the Mariners Hall of Fame. In 1996, he was an All Star and won a Gold Glove for his defense. Buhner hit for the cycle in 1993, becoming the first Mariners player to do so. Buhner’s career flourished from 1995-1997, as in each season he hit at least 40 home runs and had no less than 109 RBI. During that stretch he placed in the top 20 for A.L. MVP voting. At the time he was just the 10th MLB player to hit 40-plus home runs in three consecutive seasons. Buhner retired following the 2001 season with a career batting average of .254 along with 310 homers and 964 RBI.

Buhner played college baseball at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas and, as a freshman in 1983, helped the Highlanders advance to and win the Junior College World Series. In 1984 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and later traded to New York that same year. During his time in the minor leagues he was won a Governor’s Cup - the AAA championship - with the Columbus Clippers in 1987.
