Jeff George is a former NFL quarterback who enjoyed a career that spanned from 1990-2001, playing for the Indianapolis Colts (1990-1993), Atlanta Falcons (1994-1996), Oakland Raiders (1997-1998), Minnesota Vikings (1999) and Washington Redskins (2000-2001). He also had brief stints with Seattle, Chicago and Oakland at the end of his career but didn’t see the playing field.
George enjoyed his finest campaign with Oakland in 1997. He started all 16 games for the Raiders and threw for 3,917 yards and a career-high 29 touchdowns, the latter leading the NFL that season. That same year he had a passer rating of 91.2. In 1999, he started 10 games for Minnesota, going 8-2 and leading the team to the playoffs where he soon won his first postseason game in a 27-10 win over Dallas.
Indianapolis selected George as the first overall pick in the 1990 NFL Draft. He played college football at Illinois where in 1989 he was presented with the Sammy Baugh Trophy, awarded by the Touchdown Club of Columbus to the nation’s best passer. Growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana, George attended Warren Central High School, where in 1985 he was honored as a USA Today High School All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year.
