Richard Dent is a former NFL defensive end who played from 1983-1997, primarily with the Chicago Bears (1983-1993, 1995) but also the San Francisco 49ers (1994), Indianapolis Colts (1996) and Philadelphia Eagles (1997). A 2011 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Dent also became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
Dent was a critical part of Chicago’s renowned defensive unit of the 1980s. In 1984, 1985, 1990 and 1993, he was named to the Pro Bowl, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 1984, 1985, 1988 and 1990, as well. The 1984 regular season saw Dent record 17.5 sacks. During Chicago’s legendary 1985 season, Dent, along with future Hall of Famers Dan Hampton, Mike Singletary and Walton Peyton, helped the Bears to a 46-10 thumping of New England in Super Bowl XX. During that year’s regular season, he led the NFL with 17 sacks while in the Super Bowl itself, Dent tallied 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass break-up in route to winning game MVP honors. In his career, Dent posted 137.5 sacks and had eight interceptions.
Born on December 12, 1960 in Atlanta, GA, Dent played college football at Tennessee State before being picked in the 8th round of the 1983 NFL Draft by Chicago. After retiring from football, Dent served as president of RLD Resources, LLC.
