Jim Leyritz is a retired MLB infielder and catcher who played from 1990-2000 with the New York Yankees (1990-1996, 1999-2000), Anaheim Angels/Texas Rangers (1997), Boston Red Sox (1998), San Diego Padres (1998-1999) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2000). Leyritz hit just 90 home runs in his 11-year career but a few of them came in dramatic fashion during postseason runs while with the Yankees.

In Game 2 of the 1995 ALDS between New York and Seattle, Layritz hit a walk-off home run in the 15th inning. During the 1996 World Series, the Yankees were down 6-3 in the eighth inning and were close to trailing the Atlanta Braves in the series, 3-0. But Leyritz hit a game-tying three-run blast, giving the Yankees new life and they wound up winning the game and eventually the series itself. Leyritz won another World Series ring in 1999 with the Yankees, again showing off his clutch hitting with a Game 4 home run that helped seal New York’s sweep of Atlanta.

After his playing days, Leyritz served as a radio broadcaster with ESPN Radio’s New York City affiliate. He also worked as a pitching coach for the Newark Bears in 2011. Leyritz has been active in various charitable endeavors supporting foster children, working with such groups as Covenant House and the Police Benevolent Association.
