John Lynch played in the National Football as a strong safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1993-2003) and Denver Broncos (2004-2007). Lynch was one of the more dominating defensive backs during his time in the league, which is evidenced by his being named to the Pro Bowl nine times and a first-team All-Pro twice. He played an integral role in Tampa Bay’s winning Super Bowl XXXVII over the Los Angeles Raiders, 48-21. In total for his career, Lynch recorded 1,058 tackles with 26 interceptions and 13 sacks. He became a member of both the Buccaneers Ring of Honor and Broncos Ring of Fame in 2016.

Lynch attended Torrey Pines High School in the San Diego area and played college football at Stanford, where he originally served as a backup quarterback before switching to defense. He was picked in 1993 by Tampa Bay in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft. A successful baseball player, Lynch was also selected in the 1992 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins in the 2nd round. After retiring from playing in 2008, Lynch worked for FOX Sports as an analyst on its NFL coverage. In 2017, he was hired as general manager of the San Francisco 49ers.
